Unsurprisingly, at least one player managed to exploit the game’s buggy state to skip the tutorial and jump straight into the open world. Since the tutorial is quite long, this could have been useful for players who wanted to skip straight to the more interesting parts.
Unfortunately, according to u/GalaxyHunter17the player who tried this in their own copy, skipping the tutorial has unintended consequences that will prevent the player from completing the game.
You can read all the details after the spoiler warning below.
In a nutshell, though it’s possible to skip the tutorial by going to a pair of cliffs that separate the starting area from one of the endgame areas. After getting into the correct position, players can throw their Pokeball to trigger a wild Pokemon battle in the aforementioned endgame area. Due to how Wild Pokemon battles work, the player will be teleported over the gap between the two cliffs and end up in the aforementioned endgame area.
Once done, players can then explore the entire open world map on foot. However, while they can still catch Pokemon and level up, they won’t be able to progress through any of the three story paths. Gym buildings will be locked down and Team Star Bases will be abandoned. This means players will eventually have to go back and work through the tutorial as normal if they really want to complete the game.
