Focus on the most downloaded offline app in April, the most installs from India: Sensor Tower

Zoom is also the most downloaded app on the App Store and Google Play.

Video conferencing app Zoom beat TikTok to become the world’s most downloaded non-gaming app in April. Zoom saw nearly 131 million new installs, a 60x growth from the same month last year, according to a report from Sensor Tower.

Zoom got the most installs of its app in India, contributing 18.3% to its overall growth. Next comes the United States with 14.3% of installations in April. Zoom is also the most downloaded app on the App Store and Google Play.

This is another milestone for Zoom which recently said it has 300 million daily meeting participants. Since lockdowns began across the world, Zoom’s popularity and usage has grown as people have turned to the app for meetings, online classes and group communication.

Zoom’s security and privacy issues were also quickly reported, leading many large companies and schools to ban the app. It seems, however, that Zoom is still the go-to app for most people when it comes to video conferencing. Zoom rivals like Google Meet, which recently became free-for-all, rank eighth globally while Microsoft Teams grabs tenth.

TikTok, which has also seen impressive growth so far, saw more than 107 million installs in April, with India still leading the pack. TikTok also recently crossed 2 billion downloads worldwide. Other apps that make the top ten list are Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger. India’s Covid-19 contact tracing app Aarogya Setu took seventh place and is also the fifth most downloaded app on Google Play.
